About Christ the Redeemer
It is one of the 7 New wonders of the world. It is the Statue of Jesus Christ, which is centered in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. The statue was created by Polish-French sculptor. The sculptor Paul Landowski. The sculpture was built under the engineering of Heitor da Silva, in association with a French Engineer Caquot. The face of Jesus Christ was made by a Romanian artist name Gheorghe Leonida. The height of the statue is around 30 meters., i.e., 98ft tall. The 30 meters height is excluding the pedestal height of 26ft.
The statue is of Jesus Christ spreading his arms wide. The stitch length of his arms is about 92ft. It forms a two-third part of the Statue of Liberty from its base to the tip of the torch. The weight of the statue is around 640 metric tons.

The statue is located at the peak of a 700m Corcovado mountain which is situated in the Tijuca Forest National Park. The statue is faced is such a way it seems that it is overlooking the city of Rio de Janerio. It signifies the symbol of Christianity across the world. The materials used to build this are concrete and glass.
A Vincentian priest named Pedro Boss had suggested to place the monument of Jesus Christ on the mountain of Corcovado to honor the princess regent of Brazil Isabel. Isabel was the daughter of Emperor Pedro 2. But the suggestion was not approved at that time. In the year 1921 a Roman Catholic of Rio de Janerio had suggested to place the statue of Christ to be built on the 2340ft summit, which makes it visible from any place in Rio de Janerio. Citizens of Rio also allowed to build the statue on Mount Corcovado.

The proposal of the Romanian Catholic was accepted and the stone for the foundation of the base was laid ceremonially on the 4th of April 1922. After the completion of the statue it was dedicated on 12th of October. Tourists climb around more than 200 steps to visit the Christ the Redeemer Statue at the last stage of their trip. Escalators and lifts were created after 2002. This is now considered as one of the 7 New wonders of the world.
