List of Noble Prize Winners from India
The Nobel Prize is the biggest of all awards in the world which are a set of annual international awards awarded to persons who discover great benefits to mankind in the fields of Chemistry, Literature, Physics, Peace, Physiology or Medicine and Economics. It was started after the death of Alfred Nobel’s and was based on his last will, which states that the money in his banks should be used as the Nobel Prizes.
Till now the total of people who got Nobel prizes were 835 that includes 791 men and 44 women and 21 organizations. There were a total of 12 Indians who received Nobel Prize. The Indian Nobel Prize Winners List include 5 Indian citizens and 7 of Indian origin or residency.
Who was the first Indian to receive Nobel Prize?
Rabindranath Tagore was the first Indian to receive Nobel Prize. Mother Teresa is the only Indian woman in the Indian Nobel Laureates list. Sri Aurobindo Ghosh was only Indian to be nominated for the Nobel Prize twice for Literature in 1943 and for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1950

Rabindranath Tagore in 1913
Rabindranath Tagore was the first Indian to receive Noble Prize in the field of literature. He was a prolific poet and was awarded Nobel Prize due to his book Geetanjali. This is one of the noblest creation by him. He also wrote the national anthem of India.
Sir C. V. Raman in 1930
Chandrashekhar Venkata Raman was one of the greatest physicist of all times and is known for his work on the effect of scattering light. This effect is known as Raman Effect and due to this Sir C V Raman was awarded Nobel Prize in the field of Physics.
Mother Teresa in 1979
Mother Teresa was born in Skopje that falls in the Ottoman Empire. Mother Teresa is the first and only women from India to receive Nobel Prize. She was awarded Nobel Prize for here commendable efforts against poverty which is considered to be a threat for peace.
Amartya Sen in 1998

Amartya Sen is one of the biggest economists of modern times and has contributed a lot for the mankind in the field of economics. For his contributions to economics, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics.
Kailash Satyarthi in 2014
Kailash Satyarthi has recently got Noble Peace Prize. He shared this prize with Malala Yousafzai. He got this prize for his struggle against local laws and superstitions for sending their children to seek education.

Har Gobind Khorana in 1968

Dr. Har Gobind Khorana was born in Raipur during the British India. He later on shifted to United States of America and become citizen of US. He was the Indian who awarded Nobel Prize along with Robert W. Holley and Marshall W. Nirenberg. It was in the field of Medicine. They receive Nobel for their interpretation of the genetic code and its protein synthesis function.
Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar in 1983
Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar was born in Lahore now in Pakistan then under British India. He became US citizen and then receive Nobel for his theoretical studies of the physical processes of importance to the structure. He also worked upon the theory of evolution of the stars.
Venkatraman Ramakrishnan in 2009
Venkatraman Ramakrishnan was born in Chidambaram town of India. He was a dual citizen of US and UK. He was an India to get Nobel Prize for his contribution to chemistry. He worked for the structure and function of the ribosome.

Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay during the rule of British empire in India. He is resident of UK when awarded Nobel Prize in the field of Literature. His power of Imagination has led to this ultimate award winning story.
14th Dalai Lama in 1989
14th Dalai Lama was awarded Nobel Peace prize. He was born in Taktser, Republic of China and now lives in Tibet which is under India. He was a messanger of peace to the world and helped to maintain in the conflicted region of Tibet.
V. S. Naipaul in 2001
Naipaul was born in Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago. His forefathers were from India so he is the related Indians who received Nobel Prize. He is UK resident who got a Nobel in Literature for his commendable job in his writings.
