If you are aiming to get teaching jobs in government schools from Class 1 to Class 8, then you have to face Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). It is an Indian entrance examination for teachers where there are 2 papers. Paper 1 for class 1 to 5 and paper 2 is for class 6 to 8. This test is conducted by both Central government and State governments in India. Most states conduct their own TET and the central Government hold CTET. Thinking, why is it conducted at all? Well the reason is that it is conducted in order fulfill and achieve the goals of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act.

Board of each state conducts the TET exam every year. CTET is conducted by CBSE, Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) conducts Teacher Eligibility Test known as RTET, Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) is conducted by Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) for categories of school teachers i.e. Primary (PRT), Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) and post Graduate Teacher (PGT), and the Department of School Education of Punjab is responsible for conducting Punjab State teacher eligibility test or PSTET exam.

CTET is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), twice a year. If you are interested, then the very first thing you need to do is to check the eligibility requirements. Evaluate yourself, that you fulfill all the requirements. If yes, then only move forward to the application process. The eligibility criteria for CTET includes the academic qualification for primary stage recruitment and elementary stage recruitment. CTET is applicable for the following kind of schools:

  • Schools which are owned by state government. In case they do not opt for state conducted TET
  • Central Government Schools like KVS, Tibetan schools, NVS, and others
  • Unaided private schools
  • Schools in the Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Chandigarh

Talking about the exam pattern, both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are pen and paper based tests. CTET is objective in nature with multiple choice questions for the candidates. Remember that there is no negative marking applicable in any of the papers.

UPTET

UPTET is another state level exam conducted by UPBEB for recruiting primary school teachers i.e. class 1 to 8, in Uttar Pradesh. It is somewhat similar to CTET only. There are two papers, paper 1 and paper 2, which are conducted in offline mode. Remember that if you wish to appear for both the papers, you will have to fill a separate application form. UPBEB also issues a list of candidates whose applications have been rejected along with a valid reason. The Basic Education Board, Uttar Pradesh would look after the TET exam. Also, for this particular examination, the board has prospected to get applications from around 9-10 lakh candidates in 2017.

Eligibility

Coming to the eligibility conditions of UPTET, again you have to satisfy any one of the eligibility requirements mentioned for whichever paper you are planning to appear in. Both paper 1 and paper 2 have different set of eligibility conditions and you have to just fulfill any one. Remember if you don’t fulfill any one of the eligibility conditions and still moves forward with the application process, your application can be canceled at any point. So make sure that you are actually eligible to appear for UPTET exam first of all.

To master over the syllabus of UPTET and UPTET exam you have to study well and stay focused. Don’t waste your precious time by devoting it on new topics, rather focus on the topics which are important and you have studied. Solving previous year question papers are also very important to score good in the examination. By solving these papers you can easily recognize the type of questions that are asked in the paper. Another important thing you must do to deal with UPTET exam is, analyzing your performance by solving mock test papers.
