Must visit destinations to tame the party animal inside you
The fact that you’re even reading this means you’re no foreigner to partying, but you might be a foreigner to the world. As a fellow party animal, I’ve compiled some of the best nightlife places to go to introduce you to the exquisite and exotic to beyond wild.
“Going on vacation” for me means that I’m looking to have a BLAST, not an unexciting afternoon sipping a low-shelf cranberry vodka at the local swimming pool. Penthouse parties, people, and “purposeful living,” as I call it, are the things a real vacation has to offer.
I’m sure Matthew 7:7 from the Bible was not referencing this (and it may be blasphemous for me to quote it in this context), but I’ll state it anyway: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find.” When adventure calls, do you know what to look for?
From across the world going westward, here’s my guide to the places that brought me more fun in one night than most people have in a year.
Starting with tame but not mundane, the Sevva Rooftop Bar and CE LA VI Hong Kong are two beautiful bars with equally stunning views. Take in Hong Kong from the top of these high-rise social places without losing the social energy I know we both love. If you’re not huge about clubbing (or you’re just there to pregame), this is an ideal place to have a conversation over a cocktail.
Turning it up a couple notches and you’ll probably find yourself at VOLAR, arguably the most iconic nightclub located smack dab in the center of Lan Kwai Fong street. With class A DJs performing back to back and futuristic neon lights (think Tron) lining the walls, this is the nightclub to go for an unforgettable experience.
Two other places, Dragon-I and Fly Hong Kong are the places you’ll want to go if you’re looking for a level 8-10 activity. Pop some champagne and set one as your destination on Google Maps before the night is over!
It was definitely easier for me to maneuver and socialize in Hong Kong knowing a bit of Chinese, but I understand the pain of going through extreme gesticulations and charades with complete strangers to figure what the best restaurant nearby serves.
In Amsterdam, you won’t have to worry about that problem because most people understand or speak English. Asking someone “where can I have the most fun tonight?” may result in them directing you to De School or Sugar factory. Just note that with De School, you’ll want to know which bands you’re looking forward to because they’ll ask you at the door.
To get the best bang for your buck, I recommend splurging an enormous €10 to get an Amsterdam Nightlife Ticket. It gets you 2-7 full days of unlimited nightlife. You’ll get free access to 20+ nightclubs and special events in Amsterdam, which are not limited to AIR Amsterdam, RADION, Club Panama, and Paradiso. The nightlife in Amsterdam is as wild as the people are diverse—and trust me, you’ll meet all sorts of awesome individuals during your excursion there.
If you happen to be passing the New Year’s there as I did, you will not want to miss the incredible pyrotechnics from the Magere Brug (skinny bridge).
Next we move on to Mexico where we have Puerto Vallarta, Mexico’s #1 “beach town”, as one of the top 5 destinations to tame your inner party animal.
Let’s start with Strana, one of Puerto Vallarta’s top nightclubs. With an endless stream of music, laser light shows, performers and open-ceiling that lets you gaze into the stars, Strana will be one of your travel highlights. The bandage that covers your pains from feeling alone during traveling. Puerto Vallarta has no shortage of awesome party goers, so get your game on and head over to La Santa. It’s the perfect place for lone travelers (like me) to dance and meet new people.
Next, we have Mandala. Open-air club directly across from the ocean on the Malecon, this place is jumping every night of the week with different party themes this is not a place to skip.
My night’s out was wonderful, but it will never beat the exclusive & affordable VIP access you’ll find with one of the PVNL Party Scene party packages. In addition to the specialized VIP individual treatment, all your needs as a party animal will be met with this spectacular personalized service. They have multiple options for parties and lone travelers—it’s the ultimate Puerto Vallarta experience.
After you’re all partied out, just walk straight down to the beach, plop yourself on the sand and watch the stars under warm weather until you are ready to take a cab back to your place. But while both you and the night are young, go out and live.
As we travel westward, may very well end up on an archipelago in the central Mediterranean. Sounds cool already, doesn’t it?
Start your pregame at a local bar like Big G’s or Saddles for some cheaper mixed drinks and snacks. Once you’re feeling nice and giddy, head on over to Paceville, which typically has no entrance fees, or Sky Club, Malta’s largest indoor club. Trust me; it’s a big club for such a small island!
If you want to kill two birds with one stone by having fun without being around people who party to what you consider an unreasonable amount (if that’s even possible), situate yourself at the contemporary & classy Level 22 nightclub. It may be a bit pricey, but the view, environment, people, and vibes are beyond worth it.
Last but not the lease, let’s zoom down to South America—Argentina, to be exact. What will we find?
A whole lot more fun. Floreria Atlantico listed as one of Argentina’s top 50 bars, and without a doubt, you’ll be moving and grooving to their unbelievably catchy Spanish beats.
Looking for something a little more intense? This list has not been exhausted yet! Maybe it was my experience at each, but one of my clubs was the Buenos Ayres Club, which felt more authentically Argentine than some of the other locations I visited. In addition to their variety of tango and people who knew how to tango, their atmosphere made you feel like you were in Argentina, not at a nightclub that happened to be in Argentina (as silly as that may sound).
Before we head over to our next destination, don’t forget to check out the diverse music of the Niceto Club or the straight-up traditional techno and house music at Pacha. I didn’t invest in a VIP pass when I went to Pacha, which allows you to relax at a special terrace above with access to their champagne room.
Hey, they’re waiting for you too…
You might be looking forward to these cities, but they’re just as excited to have you! You’ll find life in abundance at these awesome locations, so when adventure calls, you know how to answer.
