1. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru
Who was the first Prime Minister of India? Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the first Prime Minister of India who was appointed by the British Viceroy of India Lord Mountbatten. He was one of the revolutionaries who is supposed to be a part of the Indian Independence Revolution. He remained the President of Indian National Congress. Then he contested elections in 1952 for the first time in the independent India and become the Member of Parliament from Phulpur, Uttar Pradesh and again he was appointed as the Prime Minister of India by the first President of India Rajendra Prasad. He was again the PM of India for the next two tenures from 1957 to 1962 and from 1962 to 1964 till his death. His period of tenure was from 15 August 1947 to 27 May 1964 for a period of 16 Years 286 days. He remained the Prime Minister of India for the longest term.
Sh. Gulzarilal Nanda
Gulzarilal Nanda was a part of Indian National Congress and served India for a period of 13 days after the Death of Jawaharlal Nehru. He was Member of Parliament from Sabarkantha, Gujrat Constituency. He was appointed as the Prime Minister of India by then President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and he remained PM just for 13 days from 27 May 1964 to 9 June 1964to fill out the PM’s office and then the Prime Ministry was handed over to Lal Bahadur Shastri who was them MP fro Allahabad.
2. Sh. Lal Bahadur Shastri
Lal Bahadur Shastri also remained as the third Prime Minister of India appointed by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and he remained on the position just for a less than two years as he was died mysteriously during his International tour of Russia. His death is still a mystery. He ruled for a period of 9 June 1964 to 11 January 1966 for a total of 1 year and 216 days. He was the Josh Machine of Indian National Congress and a role model for every citizen of India. His demise was a great loss to the democracy of India.
Sh. Gulzarilal Nanda
Gulzarilal Nanda again came to the office of fill the seat of PM”s office. His tenure was again just for a period of 13 days from 11 January 1966 to 24 January 1966.
3. Smt. Indira Gandhi
Indira Gandhi, heir of Gandhi family, daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru was appointed as the third Prime Minister of India by Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. She was the MP from Rae Bareli and became the first Women Prime Minister of India. She came into power on 24 January 1966 and remained in power for a term of 11 years and 59 days. Her term as a PM took India to a great development phase and was a threatening era for the militants all over the nation. She has served India the 3rd 4th from 1967 to 1971 and 5th PM of India & term from 1971 till her death. Her fifth Prime Ministry was appointed by Sh. V.V. Giri, the then President of India.
4. Sh. Morarji Desai
Morarji Desai was elected as the 6th Prime Minister of India and was appointed by the B.D. Jatti, the then President of India. He was the candidate of Janta Dal and was Member of Parliament from Surat, Gujrat. He remained in power for 2 years and 126 days from 24 March 1977 to 28 July 1979.
5. Sh. Choudhary Charan Singh
Choudhary Charan Singh was the 6th Prime Minister continuing the term of Morarji Desai appointed by Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, the then President of India. He was Member of Parliament fromBaghpat, Uttar Pradesh. He became Prime Minister in Alliance with Indian National Congress. He belonged to Janta Dal (Secular). He remained the Prime Minister for 170 days from 28 July 1979 to 14 January 1980.

Indira Gandhi again came into power again on 14 January 1980 and remained till her death on 31 October 1984 by her one of the guards. She was the 7th Prime Minister of India.

6. Sh. Rajiv Gandhi
Rajiv Gandhi heir of Gandhi Family, Grandson of Jawaharlal Nehru and Son of Indira Gandhi came to throne after the assassination of Indira Gandhi. He took over the Prime Minister Office for the 7th and 8th Prime Minister of India from 31 October 1984 to 2 December 1989 for 5 years and 32 days. He was Mp from Amethi. Uttar Pradesh. He was assassinated by the Human Bomb when he was addressing the people of India in a rally. He was appointed by the then President of India Giani Zail Singh.
7. Sh. V. P. Singh
V. P. Singh now came into the power for taking on the office for the 9th Prime Minister of India. He belonged to Janta Dal and was Member of Parliament from Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh. He was appointed by R. Venketaraman, the then President of India and remained in office for 343 days from 2 December 1989 to 10 November 1990 due to Non Confidence Moment against their government.
8. Sh. Chandra Shekhar
Now the seat for the 9th PM of India was free and Chandra Shekhar of Samajwadi Janta Party in alliance with Indian National Congress came to power. He was Member of Parliament from Balia Constituency of Uttar Pradesh. He was appointed by R. Venkataraman and was remained in PM office for just a total of 223 days. His tenure remained from 10 November 1990 to 21 June 1991.
9. Sh. P. V. Narasimha Rao
Now it is the turn of the tenth Prime Minister of India and for that P. V. Narsimha Rao took up the office. He belongs to Indian National Congress and was Member of Parliament from Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh. He was also appointed by R. Venkataraman, the then Prime Minister of India. He remained in power for the full term of nearly five years. He remained in office from 21 June 1991 to 16 May 1996 for a period of 4 years 330 Days.
10. Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the 11th Prime Minister of India in the year 1996 after the government of P. V. Narsimha Rao but unfortunately the government could not survive even for a month. It just remained only for 16 days from 16 May 1996 to 1 June 1996. He belonged to Bhartiya Janta Party and was appointed by Shankar Dayal Sharma. He was Member of Parliament from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
11. Sh. H. D. Deve Gowda
After the resignation of Atal Bihari Vajpayee H. D. Deve Gowda of Janta Dal United Front was appointed as the 11th Prime Minister of India by Shankar Dayal Sharma. He was MP of Rajya Sabha which is the Upper House of Indian Parliament. He remained in throne for just less than a year and his terms stands from 1 June 1996 to 21 April 1997 and then he has to resingn from the designation.
12. Sh. I. K. Gujral
I.K. Gujral was Member of Parliament for Karnataka from Janta Dal United Front and he took up the power and office of Indian Prime Minister after the resignation of H. D. Deve Gowda. His tenure remained from 21 April 1997 to 19 March 1998 just for a small period of 332 days.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee again came to power but this time he gave a strong government to India under Bhartiya Janta Party (National Democratic Alliance). He was again Member of Parliament from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He took up the office of Prime Minister on 19 March 1998 for 6 years 64 days till 22 May 2004. He kept up the 12th and 13th Prime Minister’s Seat for India. He was appointed by the then President of India Sh. K. R. Narayanan. He has started many development projects like Metro in metropolitan cities and many more road projects. He was the loudest voice of India in United Nations Organization till now.
13. Dr. Manmohan Singh
Dr. Manmohan Singh became the 14th and the 15th Prime Minister of India when Indian National Congress proved the majority under United Progressive Alliance in 2004 and 2009 elections. He is Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha for Assam which is the upper house of Indian Parliament. He was appointed by Dr. A. P. J. Kalam in 2004 and in 2009 appointed by Mrs. Pratibha Patil, the then President of India respectively. He remained in power for a full 10 years from 22 May 2004 to 21 May before handing over the charge of Prime Minister’s office to Narendra Modi. He was the man who saved India during the World Economic Tragedy in the year 2007-2008 by his active economic decisions. India was one of the few countries to survive this economic depression.
